"Do it Yourself" Wildlife Control Dangers
For the "do-it-yourselfer", performing wildlife removal and wildlife control can be a dangerous undertaking and best be left to an experienced professional. Over the years we have come across customers who attempted to do-it-themselves, only to have sustained serious bodily harm by falling off ladders and roofs. One customer, startled by an aggressive mother raccoon, fell through the attic floor onto the staircase below and broke his back.
Using Ladders
Most people lack the necessary know-how and experience of safe ladder use. "Individuals using ladders are often not mindful of the severe risks associated with use," Lara Trifiletti, PhD, MA, principal investigator in the Center for Injury Research. According to a study published in the American Journal of Preventative Medicine over 2.1 million individuals were treated in emergency departments from 1990 through 2005. Nearly all, 97%, occurred in non-occupational settings, such as homes and farms.
